My work for pierrot ensemble or Symphonic Orchestra, The Boat, is a short composition that was originally composed as part of an exquisite corpse project at the Wintergreen Academy Composer’s Retreat in 2018. Originally paired with a segment from Buster Keaton’s film, the composer composed the score with the intention of bringing the hectic mess and excitement portrayed on the screen into the sonic space music creates. For the composer, film music must first still be good concert music, and the composer has kept that in mind for the composition of this work.
